Welcome From the Preceptor
Dear Fellowship Candidate:
The Duke Revenue Cycle and Financial Management Fellowship Program is housed within the Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO) which is the centralized billing and collections office for the entire Duke Health System. Formed in 2001, the PRMO focuses on streamlining the revenue cycle through enhanced management of Scheduling, Registration, Coding, Reimbursement, Billing, Collections, Managed Care Contracting, and Customer Service. The two year fellowship program is designed to provide in-depth experience and knowledge of how revenue cycle financial management functions at all levels across the health system.
Fellows will follow a structured rotation schedule the first year, and then may tailor their second year to their professional goals and interests. Graduates encounter many opportunities for employment upon graduation. As the preceptor for the Duke Revenue Cycle and Financial Management Fellowship, I can attest to the strength of the program and the factors that distinguish it from other fellowships and job opportunities:
- Senior Administration is dedicated to the program. This is reflected in the direct reporting relationship of the fellow to the Chief Operating Officer of the Patient Revenue Management Organization.
- Rotations and projects within the PRMO are developed based on learning and developing competencies critical to the success of healthcare administrators. Additionally, this program is tailored to respond to such issues as Revenue Management, Patient Access, Reimbursement, Billing/Collections, and Customer Service.
- The Fellow is given opportunities to interact and participate with leadership and staff of the hospitals to enhance their education of how the PRMO contributes to clinical operations and the patient’s healthcare experience.
If you are seeking an opportunity to expand your knowledge of revenue cycle and financial management within an academic medical center, I invite you to consider the Duke Revenue Cycle and Financial Management Fellowship Program. If you have questions regarding this information, I welcome you to contact myself or the current fellows at your convenience. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Cecelia Moore, MHA, CPA
