The Duke University Health System (DUHS) Administrative Fellowship Programs offer unique opportunities for post-graduate training in healthcare administration. The goal of the Administrative Fellowship Programs is to provide individuals with exceptional leadership training and a strong foundation in academic medicine.

 

Duke University Health System offers three fellowship programs, each of which is two-years:

 

The Duke University Hospital Administrative Fellowship provides a comprehensive exposure to hospital operations in one of the nation’s leading hospitals.  In addition, Fellows have access to a broad range of services and sites that are part of Duke Medicine. During the first year, the Fellows participate in structured rotations throughout the hospital and health system, while also completing a diverse range of management projects.  During the second year, the Fellows pursue an area of interest based on personal and professional goals, as well as organizational opportunities.  Throughout the fellowship, Duke University Hospital Fellows gain invaluable experience in hospital operations through exposure to Senior Administration, significant project work and structured rotations.

 

The Duke Revenue Cycle & Financial Management Fellowship offers the opportunity to gain in-depth experience and knowledge of how revenue cycle financial management impacts all levels across the health system. Efficient revenue cycle management is vital to health system sustainability and affects many aspects of hospital and clinical operations, such as clinical care-giving, hospital admissions, and patient registration.

In the first year, the Fellow gains exposure to core revenue cycle competencies. During the second year, the Fellow focuses on a specific area of interest to develop in-depth knowledge and skills. Throughout the fellowship the Revenue Cycle Fellow will gain familiarity with diverse revenue cycle organizational issues in the health system and gain practical administrative experience via involvement in various projects and rotations.

The Duke Ambulatory Care Services Fellowship focuses on the outpatient environment within an academic medical center.  In the first year, the Fellow gains experience and exposure to a wide range of ambulatory care services, including: primary care, specialty care, home health and hospice, and health and wellness.  During the second year, the fellow focuses on a specific ambulatory care areas based upon personal goals and interest as well as organizational need.  Throughout the fellowship, the Ambulatory Fellow gains broad exposure to the outpatient setting within the context of a health system and also has opportunities to explore health system and inpatient areas through rotations and project work.
