Duke Ambulatory Care Services Fellowship

Project Work

Fellows’ project work widely varies depending upon the needs of the organization and the interests of the fellow. Fellowship projects begin with requests from senior leaders who identify priorities within various levels of the organization. The Fellowship Program Director then reviews all requests and selects projects that are best suited for the fellows. Fellows are encouraged to seek out projects based on personal interests and professional goals.

Examples of potential projects include:
  • Develop a business plan for a primary care clinic
  • Evaluate the patient throughput at a specialty outpatient clinic using the Six Sigma methodology
  • Develop construction projects, including new primary and/or specialty care practices
  • Create a master clinic physician schedule for the Private Diagnostic Clinics for operational and planning purposes
  • Assess the medical supply distribution process for over 70 clinics and develop a recommendation to improve the processes
