Pamela Sutton-Wallace

Associate Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Ambulatory Care Services, Duke University Health System
 
Pamela Sutton-Wallace serves as Associate Vice President for Ambulatory Care Services of the Duke University Health System. Pam is responsible for the operations and strategic direction for ambulatory services. The umbrella of services includes free-standing clinics, affiliated physicians, provider-based clinics, Duke Health and Wellness, and Duke Home Care and Hospice.
 
Prior to this appointment, Pamela Sutton-Wallace served as Associate Operating Officer for Perioperative Services. Pam led and directed operations for 46 operating rooms, including clinical quality/patient safety, work culture, patient satisfaction, and administrative/financial management. Perioperative Services included Pre-operative Screening, Sterile Processing, Perfusion Services, Anesthesia Services, the Ambulatory Surgery Center , Eye Center , Transfusion Services, Nurse Anesthesia, and Duke North operating rooms, all with an operating expense budget of $144 million, revenue budget of $491 million, and 750 employees.
 
Pamela also served as Chief of Staff for the Chancellor for Health Affairs and President/CEO of Duke University Health System. As Chief of Staff, she worked closely with the Chancellor and the senior executive team of the Health System and Medical Center in the development and implementation of the strategic planning of Duke Medicine. Sutton-Wallace assisted the Chancellor in activities such as setting of priorities, establishing timelines, leading and communicating change, and ensuring enterprise alignment and integration through the development and monitoring of the progress of action plans.
 
Pamela has held several other management-level positions within Duke University Health System after completing her Duke University Hospital Administrative Fellowship in November 1998. Positions have included Strategic Services Associate for the Hospital’s Operations Integration Office, Director of Special Projects for the Chief Operating Officer, Administrative Director for the Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Program, and Associate Operating Officer for Medical/Surgical/Critical Care and Digestive Services.
 
Sutton-Wallace has a diverse health care background with experience in the pharmaceutical, insurance, and health care research industries. She has worked at Pfizer pharmaceutical company in New York , NY , as an Outcomes Research Associate and at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina as an Assistant Underwriter.
 
She received her undergraduate degree in Political Science and African-American Studies from Washington University in St. Louis , MO , and graduated from Yale University with a Master of Public Health degree where she completed her thesis with distinction.
